How to Get Your French Toast Fix

Standard

The Huts at 12th and Polett

When I was growing up and living at home Saturdays used to be my favorite day of the week. It was my favorite day for a few reasons, mainly for the fact that I didn’t have to go to school and it was filled with other fun things like shopping, going out to dinner, or just spending time with my family and friends, but also because if everyone was up early enough, my mom would make us a delicious breakfast to start the day. Usually I would always get eggs nest which is by far one of the best meals I have ever had but on occasion my mom would switch things up and make us something like pancakes or french toast.

But then I moved to Philly and I had to say goodbye to mom-made Saturday morning breakfast and while I love cooking, let’s be honest, how many Saturday mornings am I actually awake before noon?

So the next best things to get your breakfast on is to buy some food around campus. Temple’s campus is fantastic for breakfast food… we have everything from egg sandwiches on a croissant (or CWAssont as some people who think they’re french call it) to bagels with every kind of cream cheese imaginable. But in my three years here so far, I have never once bought French Toast on campus, until today of course.

Before work this morning, I stopped at the ‘huts’ on campus for my usual coffee and food. At this point I usually am so caffeine-deprived that I just order the quickest thing to make but today I brought my own coffee from home and was ready to wait a little longer for something a little bit tastier. So I pulled over at Adriatic Grill to actually read the menu, something I usually skip since at that point I’m usually growing horns from my head (seriously guys, I’m not a morning person without my coffee) and I found something a little surprising; an entire section dedicated to french toast.  They had thick toast, thin toast, some with butter, some with syrup, some with both. I got the thick french toast with butter and syrup…. needless to say it was AWESOME and for the low low price of $4!!

So there you guys go- a post about french toast… I know my dad would be upset if I didn’t include the following:

“French toast is neither French, nor toast… discuss.”

extra points if you get the reference

So, if you have been keeping up with my posts, you know that I recently got an internship with DeTours an adventure tourism company located in Old City.

Well, Sunday morning I showed up a little early to work… about 2 hours early (I thought my shift started earlier than it did) so needless to say I had a little bit of time on my hands. What I REALLY wanted to do was go back to sleep, but since I was already down there I figured I would just walk around and explore. I desperately needed coffee so I stopped at the only place that was open at 8AM on a Sunday morning, Fork etc. It was diner-like seating where you could order quick, but delicious, food. I got two eggs, bacon, and a cup of coffee…mmmmmm =]

a photo I took of Market street at 8AM

After consuming my delicious food, I basically walked wherever the wind took me (figuratively speaking of course). About an hour into my wandering, I realized I had fallen in love with Old City.  It was just so cute! I think I found where I want to live when I graduate, which by the way, I’m now a senior?!?!?! WEIRD.

this past weekend was FANTASTIC! It was filled with great friends and even better, great food.

Mike, Shay, David and me at Dos Segundos

On Friday I ventured to the Piazza to a restaurant called Dos Segundos with a few friends for some AWESOME Mexican food. I got salmon with mango salsa and onions… salmon and onions are some of my favorite foods, needless to say it was amazing.

Saturday was filled with work, Target, and Indian food with my friend Shay and her sister. =] We went to a restaurant called Ekta which is now my absolute favorite!! Sunday, a few of us went to the First Unitarian Universalist church in Philadelphia to check it out and see what it’s all about! It was a lot of fun and I think I’ll be going back another time in the future ! After church, we headed over to a restaurant called St. Stephens Green which was DELICIOUS! I had the best eggs benedict I have ever had before…. soooo good.

Shay, Abby, and me on our way to St. Stephens Green

On Sunday afternoon my sister flew in from Arizona to surprise my mom for Mother’s Day! =] My mom was extremely surprised and excited to see my sister since we don’t get to see her very often. My sister, my mom, my dad, and myself ate dinner at PF Changs (our favorite restuarant to go to as a family) in celebration of my mom on Mother’s day! =]

This weekend was filled with some of the best food I have had in a long time. I ❤ Philly
